Club Inception report

Founder’s Welcome

Welcome to the European Business Club (EBC) at Boston College! We’re thrilled to have the EBC up and running for the rest of the 2022-2023 academic year, and for many more years to come! My name is Hector Tyser, and I will be serving as the president of this organization along with the other founding members and the executive-board. We are a group of undergraduate students passionate about understanding the deep connection between US and European financial markets. Like so many globally important organizations and markets, the EBC takes advantage of the trans-atlantic network by connecting European and American students and alumni. We believe that in this uber-globalized world, the most impactful and prominent young leaders must have an international mindset. We look to foster international awareness and a more heightened sense of connection between the US and Europe. Please join us at our general meetings and do not hesitate to get involved!

Investment Portfolio

The European Business Club is proud to unveil our investment portfolio, a key aspect of the club.  This portfolio gives members a tangible insight into European markets and the world of investing. The EBC investment portfolio consists of 5 positions in European equities and will be the main topic in our general meetings.  Leadership and general members will discuss new investment opportunities, market headwinds, European market trends, and the economic policy of the European nations.  We believe that our portfolio will encourage meaningful research, educate members on foreign investment opportunities, and foster genuine interest in global financial markets.

Structure

To make a trade, the EBC investment portfolio requires the club president, 5 voting members, and a pool of general members.  Upon inception, the 5 voting members consist of the founding Executive Board.  In order to make a trade, the following must occur:

  1. The proposed trade must be discussed at a general meeting with general members sharing their opinion

  2. 3 of 5 Voting members must approve of the trade

  3. The Club President must approve of the trade

Guest Speakers
The EBC plans to host guest speakers from the investment banking, trading, consulting, and auditing industries with connections to European markets.  These speakers will foster conversation about career opportunities overseas and provide insight into what it is like to work for a European/international company.  We look forward to hearing from these seasoned professionals!
